Supplements are one of the few Amazon categories where the paperwork decides whether you get to sell at all. This is the order of operations we use, with every rule tied to the source that sets it.
Short answer
To launch a supplement brand on Amazon, file a trademark for Brand Registry, write your claims as structure/function statements, choose a manufacturer with a current third-party cGMP certificate, test the finished product, and print an FDA-compliant label. Then list with photos of the full label, clear Amazon's third-party verification, and launch with Vine, PPC and Subscribe & Save.

In most Amazon categories you can build a listing, send inventory and start ads in the same month. Supplements do not work that way. The FDA's consumer guidance is blunt that the agency does not have the authority to approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are sold, which puts the burden on the brand. Amazon then layers its own rules on top: its dietary supplements policy requires a third-party cGMP certification for the facility (proof from an outside auditor that the plant follows current good manufacturing practice rules), listing images that show the full label, and verification through an authorized testing, inspection and certification provider (a TIC provider) once your ASINs are flagged.
That changes the order of work. The brands that launch smoothly settle their claims, manufacturer and documents first, then spend money on photos and ads. Our page on supplement brand marketing covers the creative side; this page is the full sequence.
Manufacturing practice (21 CFR 111), labeling (21 CFR 101), claim notification and adverse event reporting all come from federal law and apply whether you sell on Amazon or not.
Health claims in ads, influencer posts and listing copy need competent and reliable scientific evidence, which the FTC's 2022 Health Products Compliance Guidance says generally means randomized, controlled human trials.
Amazon's policy decides what attributes, images and documents a listing needs and what claims get it removed. As of October 2026 it applies cGMP verification to all dietary supplements, not only high-risk ones.
Start with the claim, not the capsule. A supplement can make structure/function claims, meaning statements about how a nutrient or ingredient affects normal structure or function of the body. FDA's own structure/function guidance gives examples like calcium building strong bones and fiber maintaining bowel regularity. A supplement cannot claim to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent a disease. If your whole pitch only works as a disease claim, you do not have a supplement business. You have a drug that needs FDA approval.
Write your positioning statement in structure/function language now, because it flows into the label, the Amazon title, the bullets, the A+ modules, the video script and every creator brief. The detailed wording rules, with allowed and not-allowed examples, are on our guide to supplement structure/function claims.
Then check every ingredient against two lists. First, Amazon's prohibited examples: CBD and other controlled substances, prescription-only ingredients, named peptides such as BPC-157, GLP-1 receptor agonists, pure powdered caffeine, and products named in FDA recalls or warning letters. Second, FDA's new dietary ingredient process. If an ingredient counts as a new dietary ingredient, 21 CFR 190.6 requires the notification at least 75 days before the product enters interstate commerce. A regulatory attorney should make that call, not a forum thread.
Amazon Brand Registry accepts a registered or pending trademark from a government office in a country with an Amazon store, and the program itself is free. Brand Registry gives you A+ Content, Brand Stores, Sponsored Brands, Vine and Subscribe & Save, so file early. Our supplement label guide covers what has to print on the package alongside the brand name.
Amazon requires a facility compliant with 21 CFR 111 or 117, shown by an accredited third-party audit or certification that is current. Private audits, consulting audits and FDA inspections do not count. Use our guide on how to vet a supplement manufacturer, which links to the full list of questions to ask, before you sign anything.
Under 21 CFR 111.75 the manufacturer has to run at least one appropriate identity test on every dietary ingredient. Put that, finished-product testing, certificates of analysis (COAs, the lab report for a specific batch) and reserve samples in a written quality agreement.
Get a COA on the finished batch from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab (a lab accredited for testing competence). For the five high-risk categories, Amazon also requires heavy metal, microbial and adulterant testing. Details are on our page on Amazon supplement testing requirements.
The label needs a statement of identity such as dietary supplement, net quantity, a Supplement Facts panel under 21 CFR 101.36, the ingredient list, the name and place of business, and a domestic address or phone number for serious adverse event reports. Any structure/function claim carries the FDA disclaimer in bold type at least one-sixteenth of an inch tall.
Submit the text of each structure/function claim to FDA no later than 30 days after you first market the product with it, per 21 CFR 101.93. Keep your substantiation file ready, because the FTC and Amazon can both ask for it.
Use a Professional plan ($39.99 a month). Search your product type in Add Products; if it shows Apply to sell, approval is required before you can list. Our page on Amazon supplement category approval walks through the application.
Amazon requires the supplement name, manufacturer, brand, ingredient list and unit count as attributes, plus images of the full English label, the Supplement Facts panel, lot or other identifying codes and the brand owner's name and address. No FDA logo. Ingredient weights in copy must match the panel.
When Amazon notifies an ASIN, you submit a test request form in Account Health and work with an authorized TIC provider, who sends results to Amazon for you. Products already certified by Fast-Track partners such as NSF or USP can be validated automatically, though sources disagree on whether that covers the five higher-risk testing categories. See our full Amazon dietary supplement policy breakdown.
Supplement images sell on dose, ingredient form, who it is for and certifications you actually hold. Never imply outcomes with before-and-after photos or medical devices in the frame.
Vine sends up to 30 units per parent ASIN to reviewers. The US fee is $0 for up to 2 units, $75 for 3 to 10 and $200 for 11 to 30, charged only after the first review publishes. Start PPC on exact-match terms, then widen. Our cost to launch a supplement brand page has worked budgets.
Once the ASIN is eligible, Subscribe & Save brings reorders, which is where supplement margin lives. Consider TikTok Shop only after the Amazon listing is stable, your creator scripts are claim-checked and TikTok has invited you, since its supplements category is invite-only and closed to weight management and mental wellness products.
Amazon no longer accepts supplement compliance documents directly from sellers. Its direct product validation page says a seller must work with an authorized TIC provider, who either validates your existing documents or tests your product and then submits the results to Amazon on your behalf. If you used a lab that is not on Amazon's authorized list, an authorized provider must validate those results. As of October 2026, the US list for dietary supplements in Seller Central names eight providers: Certified Laboratories, Cotecna, Eurofins, Intertek, Merieux NutriSciences, NSF, SGS and UL. We name them as examples of the type, not as a recommendation, and Amazon updates the list monthly.
The process is triggered by a notification. You can only submit a test request form after Amazon sends a document request in Account Health, and your listings stay active while the request is marked in progress with the provider. If a product fails testing or documents fail review, Amazon says the listing is deactivated right away and stays down until compliant documents arrive. AHPA and NutraIngredients reported in December 2025 a 90-day window to start the request once contacted, while an Amazon recap in Seller Forums said about 30 days, so follow the address-issue-by date in your own Account Health notice.
The fastest path is the Compliance Fast-Track program. Amazon says that when products are certified by participating partners, it validates compliance automatically. For dietary supplements, Amazon's partner list as of October 2026 includes BSCG, Clean Label Project, GRMA, Informed, NSF, SGS and USP. Sources disagree on whether Fast-Track covers the five higher-risk testing categories: BSCG and AHPA say it does not, while NSF says NSF/ANSI 173 certification counts, so get your certifier's answer for your category in writing.
Current third-party cGMP certificate for the facility, finished-product COA, label artwork that matches the bottle, photos of every side of the package, and a Certificate of Insurance through Amazon's business insurance verification.
FDA approved (unless true), disease claims, comparisons to prescription drugs, drug-like names such as GLP-1, steroid comparisons, disease names in backend keywords, and inflated raw-herb weights that do not match the panel.
Amazon wants a Non-GMO Project Verified or Nutrasource IGEN certificate, a qualifying PCR lab report from an ISO 17025 lab, or a USDA Organic certificate. Without one, leave the claim off.
A supplement shopper reads the Supplement Facts image, the reviews and the price per serving before anything else. That is why Vine is usually the first launch lever. Amazon's Vine page requires a Professional account, Brand Registry, FBA and fewer than 30 reviews on the product. It caps enrollment at 30 units per parent ASIN and charges a US fee of $0, $75 or $200 per parent ASIN depending on how many units you enroll, billed only after the first review is published. Do not try to shortcut reviews another way. The FTC's 2024 rule on fake reviews bans buying fake reviews and offering rewards that depend on whether a review is positive or negative, and it allows civil penalties against knowing violators.
PPC for a new supplement should start narrow: exact-match terms that describe the ingredient and form, your own brand terms, and a small product targeting campaign on direct competitors. Fees matter here too. In Beauty, Health and Personal Care, Amazon's referral fee is 8% on items priced at $10 or less and 15% above $10, with a $0.30 minimum, so a $9.99 price and a $10.99 price leave very different margins.
Subscribe & Save is where a supplement brand earns its keep, because a 30-day bottle is a 30-day reorder. Amazon's Subscribe & Save page says products must belong to a Brand Registry brand, that eligible FBA products are enrolled automatically, that sellers can fund a 0%, 5% or 10% discount, and that Amazon funds 5% on subscription orders of five or more items. Eligibility also depends on category, price, sales history and in-stock rate, so plan inventory so you never stock out during the first 90 days.
TikTok Shop comes later for most supplement brands, and for some it never comes. As of October 2026, TikTok's own US policy pages, dated October 9 and October 26, 2026, say the supplements category is invite-only through a TikTok account manager, that lab reports must be under 180 days old and come from a lab TikTok accepts (resellers must use one of its partner labs), and that weight management and mental wellness supplements are prohibited. Our guide to selling supplements on TikTok Shop covers the full rules. If TikTok invites you, script every creator video.
You can launch a supplement on Amazon without an agency. Plenty of founders do. If you have one SKU, a manufacturer with current third-party GMP certification, a finished-product COA, a label your attorney has read and a few hours a week, follow the 12 steps above and spend your money on inventory and Vine instead.
Help pays off in three situations: you have more SKUs than hours, a launch window is fixed by inventory arriving at FBA, or you have already had a listing suppressed and cannot tell why. Outside help earns its fee by keeping compliance, creative, ads and reorders moving at once.
You have one or two SKUs, your documents are complete, your claims are plain structure/function statements, and you can check Account Health every day during launch.
You use a possible new dietary ingredient, your positioning sits near a disease, or you plan to sell outside the US. No marketing agency, including us, replaces that review.
You are launching several SKUs, running Amazon and TikTok Shop together, or need creative, PPC and compliance handled by one accountable person.
Your margin cannot fund Vine, samples and launch ads. Fix the landed cost or price first; no service fixes product economics.
Evolve Media Agency was founded in 2017 by Ian Smith, who has sold on Amazon since 2015. We are a husband-and-wife team in Colorado backed by AI agents, and we make photos, video and design in house. Supplement clients named on our site include Liquid Health and Purely Optimal. We do not find or broker manufacturers, run lab tests, give legal advice or buy inventory. We teach you how to vet your own manufacturer, then build and run the Amazon side.
For a single launch, the Launch Roadmap is $995, the Full Launch Package is $2,495, and launch PPC is $995 a month for the first 60 days. Listing optimization is $495 per listing, product photography runs $295, $495 or $745, and graphic design for main images, infographics and Premium A+ runs $295, $495 or $595. Packaging and label design is quoted per project or done inside brand management hours.
For ongoing work, brand management retainers are paid upfront monthly and run month to month: Brand Support 5 hours for $750, Brand Manager 10 hours for $1,250, Brand Manager Plus 20 hours for $2,000, and Full Brand Management 40 hours for $3,600. Hours do not roll over, work beyond a plan is $150 an hour, and ad spend and fixed-price production are billed separately.
If you want a second set of eyes before you commit, email Ian at [email protected] or call or text 719-257-3557, and send the ASIN or the label file. We will tell you what we would fix first, including whether you need us at all.
