Email Flow Revenue Calculator: What Your Flows Should Make

Enter your flow volume, open, click and conversion rates, average order and store revenue. The calculator shows expected monthly flow revenue, what share of the store that is, and how far you are from a benchmark built from two dated 2026 sources that you can edit.

Last reviewed October 23, 2026Sources checked October 2026By Ian Smith

Short answer

Expected flow revenue is flow emails delivered times click rate times the share of clickers who buy times average order value. Example: 20,000 flow emails a month at Klaviyo's 5.58% good flow click rate, 20% of clickers buying and a $50 order is $11,160, or 11.2% of a $100,000 store. Against a benchmark of 12.3% (Eightx's 30% email share of revenue times Klaviyo's 41% flow share of email revenue), that is $1,140 a month short.

The formulas, in plain words

  1. Flow emails per month = the number you enter, or live flows times people entering each flow times emails per flow.
  2. Clicks = flow emails times click rate. Orders = clicks times conversion rate of clickers.
  3. Expected monthly flow revenue = orders times average order value.
  4. Share of store revenue = flow revenue divided by total store revenue.
  5. Benchmark share = email share of store revenue times flow share of email revenue.
  6. Gap = benchmark share times store revenue, minus flow revenue.
  7. Revenue per email = flow revenue divided by flow emails. Per subscriber = flow revenue divided by list size.
  8. Open rate does not enter the revenue math. It is used only to check that your click rate is not higher than your open rate.
This is a planning estimate. Your email tool's attributed revenue is a separate number with its own attribution window (the days after an email during which it gets credit for an order). Many tools also credit orders after an open, so their number is often higher than a click-based estimate. Use this to size the opportunity, not to replace your dashboard.
[03] How It Works

Volume, Clicks, Orders, Then the Benchmark

Flows are the automated emails that send when someone does something: joins the list, leaves a cart, browses a product, buys, or goes quiet. Campaigns are the one-off sends you schedule. This calculator covers flows only.

Flow revenue comes from three numbers multiplied together: how many flow emails go out, how many of those get a click, and how many clickers buy. Multiply by average order value and you have a monthly figure. Open rate is shown but not used in the revenue math, because Apple Mail Privacy Protection loads images automatically and inflates opens. Clicks are a cleaner signal.

Flow emails per month

Enter it directly from your email tool, or estimate it: live flows times people entering each flow per month times emails per flow. Six flows with 1,000 entries each and 3 emails per flow is 18,000 emails.

Click rate

Clicks divided by emails delivered. If your tool shows click-to-open rate instead (clicks divided by opens), multiply it by your open rate first.

Conversion rate of clickers

Orders divided by clicks. Cart flows convert far better than win-back flows, so a blended number across all flows is what belongs here.

Average order value (AOV)

Revenue divided by orders. Use the AOV of orders from email if you have it, since it can differ from the store average.

Benchmark share

Two editable numbers multiplied together: the share of store revenue that email drives, times the share of email revenue that flows drive. The defaults are explained in the next section.

[04] Where the Benchmark Comes From

Two Dated Sources, Both Labeled, Both Editable

Flows drive nearly 41% of email revenue

Klaviyo's benchmark page says flows "generate nearly 41% of total email revenue from just 5.3% of sends," and gives 2026 good flow rates of 32.2% open and 5.58% click (top 10%: 45.8% and 10.48%). It draws on over 183,000 Klaviyo customers. The page's metadata shows it was published January 23, 2026 and updated September 24, 2026. Source: Klaviyo, 2026 Email Marketing Benchmarks by Industry, checked Oct 22, 2026.

Email drives 30% to 40% of store revenue at flow-led brands

Eightx, a fractional CFO firm, wrote on June 27, 2026 that brands running email as a retention system with deep flows average 30% to 40% of total store revenue from email. It puts broadcast-led brands at 15% to 20%. It names no data source for those two ranges, so treat them as a published estimate. Source: Eightx, Klaviyo flow revenue contribution benchmarks, checked Oct 22, 2026.

What the benchmark is not

Klaviyo does not publish a flow share of total store revenue. The 12.3% default is our arithmetic on the two figures above (30% times 41%), not a number either source prints. If you run a broadcast-led program, 15% times 41% gives about 6.2%. Change either box to match the brands you compare yourself to.

[05] Worked Example

The Default Numbers, Line by Line

An example with made-up list and store numbers, using the sourced default rates. It is the same math the calculator runs.

LineAmount
Flow emails delivered20,000
Clicks (20,000 times 5.58%)1,116
Orders (1,116 times 20%)223
Monthly flow revenue (223.2 orders times $50)$11,160
Share of a $100,000 store11.2%
Benchmark share (30% times 41%)12.3%
Benchmark revenue at $100,000$12,300
Gap$1,140 short, 1.1 points
Revenue per email ($11,160 divided by 20,000)$0.56
Per subscriber ($11,160 divided by 25,000)$0.45 a month

A $1,140 monthly gap is about $13,700 a year. That is the number to weigh against the cost of fixing it, whether you do the work yourself or hire it out. Klaviyo's page says its top 10% of flows reach revenue per recipient as high as $7.79, so the ceiling is far above this example. The usual fixes are more volume (a missing browse or post-purchase flow), better clicks (offer and creative), or better conversion (the landing page). Our ecommerce email flows guide covers which flows to build first.

[06] When Not to Use It

When This Calculator Is the Wrong Tool, and When Not to Pay for Help

Your list is under a few thousand people

Flow revenue scales with traffic. At a small list the gap is a few hundred dollars, and growing the list matters more than tuning flows. Build the welcome and cart flows yourself first.

Most of your sales are on Amazon

Amazon does not give you buyer emails, so store revenue from Amazon cannot flow through your email tool. Enter only the revenue your list can reach.

You are already above the benchmark

If the gap is negative, flows are not your bottleneck. Spend on traffic, product or campaigns instead, and do not pay anyone, us included, to rebuild flows that work.

Your list is not making money at all

Start with deliverability and list health before flows. Our guide on why an email list is not making money walks the checks in order.

[08] FAQ

Email Flow Revenue Questions

How much revenue should email flows produce?
Klaviyo says flows drive nearly 41% of email revenue across its customers, and Eightx (June 27, 2026) puts email at 30% to 40% of store revenue for flow-led brands. Multiplied, that is roughly 12% to 16% of total store revenue from flows. Treat it as a guide, since neither source publishes a flow share of store revenue directly.
How do I calculate expected flow revenue?
Multiply flow emails delivered by click rate, then by the share of clickers who buy, then by average order value. Example: 20,000 emails times 5.58% times 20% times $50 is $11,160 a month.
What is a good flow click rate in 2026?
Klaviyo's 2026 benchmark page calls 5.58% a good flow click rate and says the top 10% of brands reach 10.48%. Its good flow open rate is 32.2%, with the top 10% at 45.8%.
Why does the calculator ignore open rate?
Because opens are inflated by Apple Mail Privacy Protection, which loads images automatically and counts as an open. Clicks are a cleaner signal. The open rate box is used only to warn you if your click rate is higher than your open rate, which means the two use different denominators.
What if I do not know my monthly flow sends?
Switch to the estimate option and enter the number of live flows, the average number of people entering each flow per month, and the average emails per flow. Six flows, 1,000 entries each and 3 emails each is 18,000 emails a month.
Why is my Klaviyo flow revenue higher than this estimate?
Many email tools credit an order to an email after an open as well as a click, within a set window, so their number is often higher than a click-based estimate. Use the dashboard for reporting and this calculator for sizing the gap and testing what a better click or conversion rate is worth.
Should I include Amazon sales in store revenue?
No. You cannot email Amazon buyers from your own list, so Amazon revenue cannot come through your flows. Enter only the revenue your email list can reach, usually your Shopify or direct site sales.
What does Evolve charge for email marketing?
Email marketing is quoted per scope, because a brand with two flows and a brand with twelve need different work. Book a free call with your numbers from this calculator and we will write a fixed-price scope. Like all our work, it is paid 100% upfront with no long-term contract.
