Most TikTok Shop video problems are not creative problems. They are a 5 MB file limit, a mismatched product link or a line that sends buyers somewhere else.
Our Amazon product video specs cheat sheet is one of the most used pages on this site, so this is its TikTok Shop counterpart. TikTok's video rules are spread across Seller University, the Ads Manager help center and policy documents that change often. We pulled the current versions together and cite each one, so you can check the source when something changes.
Evolve Media Agency runs TikTok Shop accounts and produces TikTok video, so we have an interest in you hiring us. Section 12 covers when to handle this yourself. Specs below come from TikTok Shop's US Seller University and TikTok Ads Manager help pages, checked October 15, 2026, with policy changes from 2026 trade coverage. These are US marketplace rules; other regions can differ. TikTok updates specs often, so check the linked page before a big upload.
Three terms are used throughout. Listing video is the video on your product detail page. Shoppable video is any TikTok post that carries a product link. Ad video is a video you pay to promote through TikTok Ads Manager.
The Three Kinds Of TikTok Shop Video
TikTok Shop video falls into three kinds, each with its own specs, rules and review process. Treating them as one is the most common source of confusion.
| Kind | Where Buyers See It | Main Rules Come From |
|---|---|---|
| Listing video | On the product detail page, with the images | TikTok Shop Product Listing Policy and Seller University |
| Shoppable video | In the For You feed and on profiles, with a product link | TikTok Shop Content Policy and Community Guidelines |
| Ad video | In the feed as a labeled ad | TikTok Ads Manager specs and advertising policies |
The listing video is small and tightly limited. Shoppable videos are where most TikTok Shop sales happen, through your own account and affiliate creators. Ad videos follow TikTok's general ad specs, with Spark Ads using existing posts.
The same footage can serve all three, but rarely the same file. A 5 MB listing video, a creator-style shoppable post and a 9:16 ad each need their own export. Plan for that before the shoot.
Review also works differently for each. Listing media is checked when you create or edit the product. Shoppable videos are judged against content policy after posting, and a problem can mean a hidden product link, a removed video or account health points. Ads go through TikTok's ad review before they serve. A video that passed one check has not passed the others.
A TikTok Shop shoppable video is a TikTok post that includes a link to a product in TikTok Shop, letting viewers tap through to buy without leaving the app. It can be posted by the seller or by an affiliate creator, and it must follow TikTok Shop's content policy, including accurately showing the linked product.
Product Listing Video Specs
A TikTok Shop product listing allows one video, with a maximum file size of 5 MB, according to TikTok Shop's Seller University product listing guide.
Five megabytes is very small for video. It is the limit sellers trip over most, and feed tools such as GoDataFeed list "product video exceeds 5 MB" as a common upload rejection. In practice, a listing video at that size needs to be short and efficiently compressed: think 15 to 30 seconds at 720p rather than a 60-second 4K export. Test the export before you upload.
The Seller University guide does not list a required aspect ratio or duration for the listing video on the page we checked. Because the listing images are square, a square or vertical video tends to sit more naturally in the media area than a wide one. Check the uploader's prompts in Seller Center when you upload, since requirements can change.
A practical export recipe that usually lands under the limit: H.264 video, 720 pixels on the short side, around 30 frames per second, a bitrate low enough to fit the duration, and audio at a modest bitrate or removed entirely if the video works muted. Every editing app labels these settings differently, so export once, check the file size, and adjust before you upload. If a 30-second cut will not fit, shorten it rather than crushing the quality until the product is hard to see.
With one slot and 5 MB, the listing video should do one job: show the product clearly working. Save storytelling and creator-style content for shoppable videos, where length and format are far more flexible.
Listing Media Rules That Cause Rejections
TikTok Shop's listing guide is strict about what images and videos can show. Most rejections come from added marketing, misleading visuals or anything that points buyers off the platform.
The Seller University guide says listing images and videos must accurately reflect what the customer will receive, and lists these things to avoid:
- Marketing or promotion stickers. The guide says these may result in product rejection.
- Text, graphics or watermarks on the first image. The first image should be a clear front view.
- Black-and-white images, mosaics or filters that can mask brand identifiers.
- Placeholders or digital renderings instead of the real product.
- Misleading images, which the guide says may result in enforcement actions.
- Anything that tries to redirect customers away from TikTok Shop.
- Altered or added brand identifiers. Do not add another brand's identifiers, and do not change your own.
The guide also lists prohibited themes for images and videos, including explicit or suggestive imagery, negative body image, animal abuse, violent or shocking content and hateful material. Category rules add more: food must be shown with its packaging, and children's swimwear and undergarments must be shown flat on a plain background.
The listing video counts as listing media, so these rules apply to it as well as to images. Our TikTok Shop listing optimization guide covers titles, images and descriptions in more detail.
Shoppable Video Requirements
Shoppable videos are regular TikTok posts with a product link, so they follow TikTok's normal posting formats plus TikTok Shop's content policy. The policy is what decides whether a shoppable video keeps its link.
| Requirement | What It Means In Practice |
|---|---|
| Show the linked product | The video must show the exact product in the link, not a similar one |
| No off-platform redirects | No links, websites or calls to buy elsewhere |
| Accurate claims | No unproven superlatives or unrealistic results |
| Original content | No reposted videos from other platforms without creative edits |
| Real interaction | Avoid static images with music or looped clips |
| Vertical format | 9:16 is native; keep text inside the safe zone |
Emplicit's May 2026 guide to TikTok Shop violations quotes TikTok directly on redirects: "Content will be removed if it includes links." It also lists misleading videos whose content does not match the product sold, recycled content imported from other platforms without edits, and watermarked media from competitors among the violations.
For length, TikTok allows long uploads, but shoppable videos that sell usually get to the product fast. TikTok's creative guidance recommends introducing your proposition in the first three seconds. Most product-led shoppable videos we make run well under a minute.
The 2026 Content Posting Limit
Since March 30, 2026, TikTok Shop can limit how many shoppable videos a seller posts if the seller publishes too many non-interactive or misleading ones, according to BigSeller's summary of TikTok's Content Posting Limit policy.
BigSeller describes two problem categories. Non-interactive videos include static images set to music and short looped clips. Misleading videos include showing one product while linking to a different one. The stated aim is that what a customer sees is what they get.
We could not open TikTok's own policy page for this rule, so treat the exact numbers as reported rather than confirmed. The direction is clear either way: low-effort slideshow videos and mismatched links now cost reach, not just quality points.
The practical fix is simple. Film real product footage with motion and a person or hands interacting with the product, and check every product link against the video before posting.
Affiliates matter here too, because the rule applies to affiliate accounts as well. If your affiliate program relies on creators reposting the same slideshow template, those creators may hit the limit and your product links disappear from their videos. Send affiliates real footage and a simple shot list instead of a template to repost.
TikTok Ad Video Specs
TikTok's In-Feed ads help page lists the specs for ad videos. Non-Spark ads, which you upload directly, and Spark Ads, which use existing posts, have different rules.
| Spec | Non-Spark In-Feed Ads | Spark Ads |
|---|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 recommended; 16:9 and 1:1 accepted | Uses the original post |
| Minimum resolution | 540x960 (9:16), 960x540 (16:9), 640x640 (1:1) | Uses the original post |
| File formats | MP4, MOV, MPEG, 3GP, AVI | MP4 or MOV |
| Duration | Up to 10 minutes | No restriction listed |
| File size | 500 MB or less | Uses the original post |
| Bitrate | At least 516 kbps | Uses the original post |
| Caption | No clickable links, @ symbols or hashtags | Taken from the post; up to 4 lines shown |
The 10-minute maximum is a limit, not a recommendation. TikTok's creative best practices page recommends introducing your proposition in the first three seconds and prioritizing the hook in the first six, in a native, not overly polished style. For Shop ads, short product-first videos are the norm.
TikTok also publishes downloadable safe zone files on the same page. The safe zone depends on the aspect ratio, caption length and any extra formats such as product anchors. Download the version with anchors if your ad will carry a product link.
Safe Zones And Framing
On TikTok, the interface covers parts of the screen: the caption and account name at the bottom, the action buttons on the right and, on shoppable videos, the product link. Anything important placed there gets hidden.
Keep the product in the middle of the frame, clear of the right-side buttons and the bottom caption area.
Place on-screen text in the upper-middle area so the caption and product link do not cover it.
TikTok's In-Feed help page offers safe zone overlays, including versions with product anchors.
Frame a little wider than you need so the edit can reposition the product clear of the interface.
Drop the safe zone overlay into your editing timeline as a top layer while you cut, then remove it before export. It takes seconds and prevents the most common TikTok framing mistake: a key caption or product detail sitting under the buy button.
For the listing video, framing is different because it plays in the product page media area rather than the full-screen feed. Keep the product large and centered, and avoid text near the edges.
Content That Gets Videos Removed
Shoppable videos are removed, lose their product links or cost the seller account health points when they break TikTok Shop's content rules. Emplicit's May 2026 guide lists the main violations:
- Exaggerated claims: unproven superlatives like "the best" or "the only," and unrealistic promises such as clearing acne in three days.
- Health claims: claims that a product cures serious medical conditions.
- Weight-loss before-and-after imagery, which Emplicit says is prohibited.
- Off-platform redirects: links, references or calls to action that move buyers off TikTok Shop.
- Misleading content that does not match the product sold.
- Recycled content imported from other platforms without creative edits.
- Fake engagement, such as inflated views, likes or orders, which Emplicit says can lead to immediate deactivation.
One rule catches sellers off guard: Emplicit notes that unsupported claims made by affiliates and creators are charged to the seller's account. A creator's casual "this cured my eczema" is your violation, not just theirs. Brief creators with a do-not-say list.
PPC Land reports that TikTok Shop's US policy, published August 4, 2026, prohibits minors from promoting products through narration, explanation or recommendation, including voiceovers. Adults must lead product introductions. For products made only for children, minors may wear or test them on camera but may not sell them.
Account Health And Video Violations
Video violations feed into TikTok Shop's account health system, so a pattern of bad videos can restrict the whole shop, not just the post.
Emplicit's guide describes a points system that resets every 90 days, with escalating enforcement:
| Points | Enforcement Reported |
|---|---|
| 12 | 7-day suspension from mega campaigns, growth activities and the Affiliate Program |
| 24 | 14-day penalty, suspended new listings, reduced LIVE traffic |
| 36 | 28-day full shop deactivation |
| 48 | Permanent deactivation |
Emplicit also reports that milestone warnings come within five points of the next level, that funds can be withheld for 45, 90 or 365 days depending on severity, and that linked shops can be suspended together. Its guide also describes a separate Account Health Rating score with internally inconsistent thresholds, so check your own Seller Center dashboard for the current numbers.
The takeaway for video: one misleading or claim-heavy creator video is a warning. A dozen across your affiliate program can add up to real restrictions. Our TikTok Shop account health guide covers appeals and recovery.

Book A CallTikTok Shop Vs Amazon Video Rules
Brands selling on both platforms often try to use one video everywhere. The two platforms' rules and formats differ enough that it rarely works without separate exports.
| Area | TikTok Shop | Amazon |
|---|---|---|
| Listing videos allowed | 1 per product, 5 MB max | Up to 4 per ASIN |
| Native format | Vertical 9:16 for feed content | Horizontal 16:9 for the listing player |
| Where sales happen | Shoppable feed videos and LIVE | The listing, after search |
| Off-platform links | Not allowed | Not allowed |
| Unproven claims | Not allowed | Not allowed |
| Style that works | Creator-led, native, fast hook | Clear demo, captions, product early |
The Amazon figures come from Amazon's Selling Partner Blog, which also says listing video requires a Professional account and three months of selling history, not Brand Registry, and only shows in the main media block when a product has fewer than six images.
The best approach is one shoot with two framings: horizontal takes for Amazon and vertical takes for TikTok, captured on the same day. Our Amazon specs cheat sheet covers the Amazon side in full.
Pre-Upload Checklist
Run every TikTok Shop video through this checklist before it goes live. It catches the problems that cause most rejections, hidden links and account health points.
Give the same checklist to affiliate creators with your brief. Since creator violations count against the seller, a creator who understands the rules protects your shop. Our TikTok Shop creator affiliate guide covers briefing and managing affiliates.
Keep a short log of anything TikTok rejects or limits, with the reason given. Patterns show up quickly, and the log becomes the do-not-say list for your next brief.
Handle It Yourself Or Hand It Off
Many sellers can meet TikTok Shop's video requirements themselves. The listing rules are short, the ad specs are published, and the content rules come down to showing the real product honestly and keeping buyers on TikTok.
Handle it yourself when:
- You have a few products and post from your own account. The checklist in section 11 covers most risks.
- You or your team are comfortable on camera. Real people using the product is exactly what TikTok Shop rewards.
- You are testing TikTok Shop before investing. Phone footage that follows the rules is enough to learn what sells.
Hand it off when you are running an affiliate program with many creators, when account health is already under pressure, or when you need a steady flow of compliant videos across listings, shoppable posts and ads. Keeping dozens of creators inside the rules is where most shops get into trouble.
Our TikTok Shop agency services cover content, creators and ads. For videos alone, our UGC review-style videos start at $495, with packs of three for $1,295, and current prices are on the pricing page. Whoever makes them, check every video against the current Seller University and Ads Manager pages before posting, because TikTok changes these rules more often than most platforms.
What To Remember
- TikTok Shop allows one video per product listing, with a maximum file size of 5 MB, alongside up to nine square images of at least 600 by 600 pixels, per TikTok Shop Seller University.
- TikTok Shop listing media must not include marketing stickers, digital renderings, misleading visuals or anything that redirects buyers off TikTok Shop.
- Shoppable videos must show the exact product they link to, and content with off-platform links or unproven claims can be removed.
- Since March 30, 2026, posting five or more non-interactive or misleading shoppable videos in seven days can trigger a posting limit, according to BigSeller's summary of TikTok policy.
- TikTok recommends vertical 9:16 for non-Spark In-Feed ads at 540 by 960 pixels or more, with files up to 500 MB, up to 10 minutes and at least 516 kbps.
- Unsupported claims made by affiliate creators count against the seller's TikTok Shop account health, so creators need a do-not-say list.
- TikTok Shop's 2026 US policy bars minors from promoting products in shoppable videos and livestreams, including through voiceovers.
