A good listing video is a list of doubts with a camera pointed at each one. The category decides which doubts.
Most example roundups show you a pretty video and say it works. That does not help you brief a shoot. This guide does the opposite. It breaks 20 formats into seconds, so you can see exactly what goes on screen at 0, 3, 10 and 20 seconds, and why. We grouped them by category because the doubts that stop a supplement sale have nothing in common with the doubts that stop a tent sale. We do not name or copy other brands' videos. Every breakdown is a format you can shoot for your own product.
Evolve Media Agency makes Amazon product videos, so we have an interest in you hiring someone. Several of these formats are easy to shoot on a phone, and section 12 says which ones. Amazon rules quoted here were checked against Amazon's seller blog and Amazon Ads guides on October 15, 2026. The Seller Central uploader is the final word.
This is the formats reference. For the full production process, read the step-by-step guide to making an Amazon product video. For file rules by placement, use the Amazon video specs cheat sheet.
How To Read These Breakdowns
Each format below lists its length, its placement on Amazon, the video type you pick in the uploader, and a second-by-second shot table. The right-hand column is the important one. It names the shopper doubt each shot exists to answer.
Amazon's uploader asks you to tag each video as Product overview, Unboxing, How-to, Setup, Troubleshooting, Brand story or Other. We map every format to one of those. The placements we use are:
- Listing video. The main media block next to your photos, plus the videos section lower on the page.
- Sponsored Brands video. A paid ad that runs 6 to 45 seconds and needs audio.
- Sponsored Products video. A newer ad format that shows short feature clips for one ASIN. Amazon Ads says any audio is removed, so these clips must work silent.
- Premium A+ and Brand Store. Longer explainers in A+, short silent loops in the Store.
Amazon's seller blog says a video only appears in the main media block when the product has fewer than six images, and that each ASIN can carry up to four shoppable videos. Many listings use every image slot and then wonder why the video sits lower on the page. Count your images first.
The same blog says you do not need Brand Registry for these listing videos. You need a Professional selling account, at least three months of selling history and a live listing. Amazon opened listing video to non-registered sellers in June 2023, as Value Added Resource reported at the time.
Supplement Video Examples
Supplement shoppers doubt two things a photo cannot settle: how big the capsule is and what taking it every day looks like. Powders add a third doubt, texture.
Format 1: Capsule Scale And Daily Routine
Length: 25 to 30 seconds. Placement: listing video; the first 6 seconds become a Sponsored Brands opener. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Two capsules tipped from the bottle into an open palm | What does it actually look like? |
| 3-8s | One capsule held between two fingers next to a coin, caption with the count per serving | Can I swallow these? |
| 8-16s | The bottle on a kitchen counter beside coffee and keys, a hand taking a serving | Will this fit my morning? |
| 16-24s | Slow pan across the Supplement Facts panel, held long enough to read | What is in it and how much? |
| 24-30s | The sealed cap opened, then the bottle and box side by side | Is it sealed and genuine? |
Format 2: Powder Mix Test
Length: 20 seconds. Placement: listing video and a Sponsored Products feature clip. Uploader type: How-to.
Keep health claims out of the captions unless your regulatory review has approved the exact words. The video's job here is size, routine and texture, which need no claims at all.
Beauty And Skincare Examples
A beauty shopper wants to feel the product through the screen. Texture, finish and how much to use carry the sale. Before-and-after results carry the risk, because results claims need proof and invite rejection.
Macro shot of a single pump or drop landing on the back of a hand. Answers: how thick is it?
Fingers spread it at real speed, caption names the texture in two words. Answers: will it feel heavy?
Hand tilted under a window to show matte or dewy. Answers: will I look greasy?
The bottle in hand with size caption. Answers: how long will this last?
Format 4: Where It Fits In The Routine
Length: 30 to 40 seconds. Placement: listing video and Premium A+ module. Uploader type: How-to.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Product in hand at a bathroom sink, already open | Is this for me? |
| 3-10s | Three bottles in a row with step numbers, this one highlighted | Which step is it? |
| 10-20s | The amount used shown next to a fingertip, then applied | How much do I use? |
| 20-30s | The pump or dropper working cleanly, then the cap closed | Does the packaging leak or clog? |
| 30-40s | Shade or size variants in one frame | Which one do I pick? |
Amazon's seller blog reports that beauty listings saw a 25.8% average sales lift after adding a first shoppable video. That is Amazon's internal data about its own feature, so treat it as a direction rather than a forecast.
Kitchen And Cookware Examples
Kitchen buyers doubt performance and cleanup. Both need real speed. A sped-up cooking shot reads as hiding something, and shoppers notice.
Format 5: Real-Speed Cook Demo
Length: 30 to 45 seconds. Placement: listing video; the release shot becomes the Sponsored Brands hook. Uploader type: How-to.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Food already cooking in the pan, steam visible | Does it work? |
| 3-12s | The release: food slides out with a spatula, no cut | Does it stick? |
| 12-20s | Pan on the burner from above, caption with diameter | Will it fit my stove? |
| 20-30s | Lid on, handle gripped mid-cook | Is the handle comfortable? |
| 30-45s | The full set or size options laid out | What do I get? |
Format 6: The Cleanup Test
Length: 15 to 20 seconds. Placement: listing video and a Sponsored Products feature clip. Uploader type: How-to.
The cleanup test is short enough to work as a Sponsored Products clip on its own, and it answers the complaint that shows up after the honeymoon: hard to clean.
Home And Furniture Examples
Home shoppers doubt two things more than anything else: how hard assembly is and how big the thing is in a real room. Amazon's seller blog reports a 26.7% average sales lift for home products with a first video, again from its own data.
Format 7: Assembly In Real Time
Length: 45 to 60 seconds. Placement: listing video; full version as a Premium A+ module. Uploader type: Setup.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-4s | Finished product, then hard cut to the closed box | What am I building? |
| 4-12s | Every part laid out and counted, tools included in frame | Are all parts there? Do I need tools? |
| 12-40s | Each step at real speed with a running clock in the corner | How long will this take me? |
| 40-50s | A hand pressing down on the finished piece | Is it sturdy once built? |
| 50-60s | Finished piece in a styled room | Will it look right? |
The clock is the point. A visible timer turns "easy to assemble" from a claim into proof. If the real time is 40 minutes, show the clock jump between steps rather than hiding it.
Format 8: Room-Scale Walkaround
Length: 25 to 30 seconds. Placement: listing video. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Wide shot of the product in a furnished room | What does it look like at home? |
| 3-10s | An adult sits, stands or reaches next to it | How big is it really? |
| 10-18s | Tape measure across the widest side, caption with inches | Will it fit my space? |
| 18-25s | The same surface in daylight, then lamp light | Is the color accurate? |
| 25-30s | Close-up of the material or finish | Does it look cheap up close? |
Pet Product Video Examples
Every pet product carries one doubt above all: will my animal actually use it? The second is whether it survives. A real animal reacting without a script answers the first better than any caption.
Format 9: Real Pet, No Script
Length: 20 to 30 seconds. Placement: listing video and Sponsored Brands. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | The pet already engaged with the product | Will my pet care? |
| 3-12s | Uncut interaction, owner hands visible | Is this staged? |
| 12-20s | Product next to the pet with breed and weight caption | Is it the right size for mine? |
| 20-30s | Size options in a row | Which size do I buy? |
Film several animals if you can. A video that only shows a calm, trained dog does not answer the owner of an anxious one.
Format 10: The Durability Pull
Length: 15 to 25 seconds. Placement: listing video and a Sponsored Products feature clip. Uploader type: Product overview.
Show what the product does and say nothing it cannot back up. Words like indestructible invite both returns and rejection. Show the pull, show the seams, and let the shopper judge.
Toy And Baby Examples
Parents doubt three things: age fit, how long setup takes, and whether the product is safe and easy to clean. Amazon's seller blog says toys saw the highest category lift it reported, 32.7%, from its own data.
Format 11: Build And Play
Length: 30 seconds. Placement: listing video; play segment as Sponsored Brands. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Finished toy in play, child hands only | What does it do? |
| 3-10s | Box contents spread out, piece count caption | What is in the box? |
| 10-20s | Build steps at real speed, adult and child hands | Can my kid build it, or do I have to? |
| 20-30s | Finished toy next to a known object, age caption | How big is it? What age is it for? |
Show hands rather than faces. It keeps the frame on the product, and it avoids the consent and privacy questions that come with filming children.
Format 12: Safety And Cleaning Close-Up
Length: 20 to 30 seconds. Placement: listing video and Premium A+. Uploader type: How-to.
- 0-5s: The buckle, latch or lid clicking shut, filmed in macro. Answers: does it hold?
- 5-12s: An adult hand running along edges and corners. Answers: any sharp parts?
- 12-20s: The cover unzipped or the part removed and rinsed. Answers: can I clean it?
- 20-30s: Any certification mark you can document, held steady. Answers: has it been tested?
Only show certifications you hold paperwork for. A safety claim you cannot document is the fastest way to a rejected video, and in this category it can also be a legal problem.
Apparel Product Video Examples
Apparel returns follow fit. Amazon's seller blog points apparel sellers to fit, comfort and sizing context, and reports a 30.5% average lift for apparel with a first video. Show the garment on bodies and in motion.
Format 13: Fit On Two Bodies
Length: 30 seconds. Placement: listing video. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Model walking toward camera in the garment | How does it look on a person? |
| 3-12s | Same item on two body types, size and height captions | Which size should I order? |
| 12-20s | Sitting, reaching and bending | Does it ride up or pull? |
| 20-26s | Slow 360 turn | What does the back look like? |
| 26-30s | All colors on a rack or flat lay | What colors are there? |
Format 14: Fabric Stretch And Detail
Length: 15 to 20 seconds. Placement: listing video and a Sponsored Products feature clip. Uploader type: Product overview.
The window shot answers the question nobody asks in the questions section but everybody worries about. If the fabric is sheer by design, say so in the caption.
Electronics And Gadget Examples
Gadget shoppers doubt setup and compatibility. The fastest proof is a clock and the device they already own, with any other brand's logo kept out of frame.
Format 15: Unbox To Working
Length: 30 to 45 seconds. Placement: listing video; the working moment as a Sponsored Brands hook. Uploader type: Unboxing.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Device switched on and working | Does it work? |
| 3-10s | Box opened, every item laid out | What cables and parts come with it? |
| 10-25s | Plug in or pair at real speed, clock in corner | How hard is setup? |
| 25-35s | Main feature in use | What does it actually do? |
| 35-45s | Charging port and battery indicator close-up | How do I charge it? |
Format 16: Compatibility Check
Length: 20 to 30 seconds. Placement: listing video and Premium A+. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-5s | Product attached to a common device type, logo covered | Will it work with mine? |
| 5-15s | Two or three device sizes in turn, model families in captions | Does it fit my model? |
| 15-25s | Ports, buttons and connectors in macro | Which plug is it? |
| 25-30s | Product working in each setup | Will features still work? |
Cover or tape over logos on phones, laptops and cars in frame. In our experience, other brands on screen are a common reason listing videos get sent back.

Book A CallOutdoor, Sports And Tools
Outdoor and tool buyers doubt performance in real conditions, packed size and toughness. A studio set cannot answer any of those. Go outside.
Format 17: In The Field
Length: 30 to 45 seconds. Placement: listing video and Sponsored Brands. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | Product in use outdoors, real weather | Does it hold up outside? |
| 3-12s | Packed size in one hand, then set up | How small does it pack? |
| 12-25s | Setup or main use at real speed, clock in corner | How long does setup take? |
| 25-35s | Product on a luggage scale, weight caption | How heavy is it? |
| 35-45s | Packed away again | Does it go back in the bag? |
Format 18: The Repeatable Stress Test
Length: 15 to 30 seconds. Placement: listing video and a Sponsored Products feature clip. Uploader type: Product overview.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-3s | The test setup: bucket, drop height or load | What are you about to prove? |
| 3-15s | The test at real speed, one continuous take | Is this faked? |
| 15-25s | Close-up after the test, product working | Did it survive? |
| 25-30s | Caption naming the test conditions | Would mine survive the same? |
Only film tests you could repeat on demand, and caption the conditions: drop height, water depth, load in pounds. A stress test with stated conditions is evidence. One without them looks like a stunt.
Two Formats For Any Category
Two formats work regardless of what you sell. One reduces returns. The other feeds Amazon's newest video ad.
Format 19: Troubleshooting And Care
Length: 30 to 60 seconds. Placement: videos section of the listing and Premium A+. Uploader type: Troubleshooting.
| Seconds | On Screen | Doubt It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| 0-5s | The problem shoppers report, shown plainly | Is this normal? |
| 5-25s | The fix, step by step at real speed | Can I fix it myself? |
| 25-45s | Cleaning, charging or storage routine | How do I make it last? |
| 45-60s | Product working again | Will it go back to normal? |
Pull the problem from your return reasons and one-star reviews. If shoppers return a product because they missed a reset step, a 40-second video can fix that for everyone after them.
Amazon Ads lets you add one to five videos per ASIN, each tied to a feature. Cut Formats 2, 6, 10, 14 and 18 down to one feature per clip.
Amazon Ads says any audio is removed. Talking heads that rely on sound do not work here.
The guide asks for the product to fill at least half the frame, with a person interacting with it.
Feature titles run up to three words and 15 characters. Name the feature, like "Leak Proof Lid."
Amazon Ads lists these clips at seven seconds or longer, 16:9, 1920x1080 recommended, MP4 or MOV, 500 MB or less. As of its current guide they show in search, with more placements planned. The Sponsored Products video guide has the full list.
Which Format To Make First
Make the format that answers your most common review complaint first. Everything else is second. Here is the quick way to choose:
- "Smaller or bigger than expected" in reviews: Formats 1, 8, 9, 11 or 17, whichever fits your category.
- "Hard to set up" or "missing parts": Formats 7 or 15.
- "Does not fit" or sizing returns: Formats 13 or 16.
- "Broke fast": Formats 10 or 18.
- Returns for user error: Format 19.
Keep the first one short. Amazon's seller blog says most successful videos run 30 to 90 seconds with the key feature in the first 5 to 10 seconds, and the four examples it features all run between 26 and 32 seconds. We aim for 20 to 45.
Pick the format by the complaint. The category only tells you where to look.
When you should not hire anyone: Formats 2, 3, 6, 10, 14 and 18 are a phone on a tripod, a window and one continuous take. If your product is simple, shoot those yourself. The same goes for any product you are still validating. A tested phone demo beats an untested agency film.
Hiring makes sense when a format needs models, a styled room or several cuts from one shoot. For reference, our listing videos are $395 for 20 seconds with a hand model on a solid background, $695 for 30 seconds in a lifestyle scene, and $895 for 45 seconds with a full-body model and a scripted read. A Sponsored Brands Ad Cut Pack from existing footage is $295. Current prices are on the pricing page. To see the work, browse our video portfolio or the Amazon product video service.
What To Remember
- Build each Amazon product video shot around one shopper doubt, taken from your one- to three-star reviews and return reasons.
- Amazon says a video appears in the main media block only when the product has fewer than six images, and allows up to four shoppable videos per ASIN.
- Brand Registry is not required for listing videos, according to Amazon; a Professional account, three months of selling history and a live listing are.
- Real speed and a visible clock turn claims like "easy to assemble" into proof, which is why assembly, setup and cleanup formats avoid speed ramps.
- Sponsored Products video strips audio and takes one to five feature clips per ASIN, each at least seven seconds, so cut silent single-feature clips.
- Amazon reports average sales lifts of 25.8% to 32.7% by category after a first video; this is Amazon's own data about its own feature.
- Choose the first format by your most common review complaint: scale, setup, fit, durability or user error.
Where This Came From
- Amazon Selling Partner Blog, When customers can't touch, let Amazon product videos convince them. First-party Amazon. The page is dated May 12, 2025 but cites "Amazon internal data, January - June 2026," so its date and data do not line up; treat the lift figures as Amazon's own claims.
