How to Launch Gummy Supplements on Amazon Without Failing Label Claim or Melting in FBA

Gummies sell because people like taking them. They are also the hardest common format to keep on label: water, heat and acid break down actives, labs struggle to test them, and Amazon's summer meltable rules can strand your inventory. Here is how to launch one that holds up.

Short answer

To launch a gummy supplement on Amazon, choose actives that survive heat, water and acid, set overages from stability data, and pick pectin or gelatin for your customer and climate. Test finished gummies at an accredited lab whose method works for gummies, use moisture-barrier packaging, plan around Amazon's summer meltable window, and build the listing from the final Supplement Facts panel.

[02] The Format Problem

Why Gummies Are Harder Than Capsules, Tablets or Powders

Disclosure: Disclosure: Evolve Media Agency sells brand management, creative, listing and launch services to supplement brands, and our own prices appear on this page, clearly marked. We do not sell gummies, formulation, manufacturing or lab testing, and we do not recommend a manufacturer or lab. Several sources below sell testing, instruments or manufacturing services, and we name that where it applies. Nothing here is legal advice; for a specific formula or claim, talk to a regulatory attorney.

Gummies are big business. SupplySide Supplement Journal reported in August 2026 that gummies held nearly a quarter of dietary supplement market share in 2025, citing Nutrition Business Journal (SupplySide Supplement Journal, August 2026). That is why so many brands launch one first, and why the failures get attention.

A capsule is a dry powder in a shell. A gummy is a cooked, acidic, water-based gel, and that matrix is hostile to many actives. Contract Laboratory, a lab outsourcing network that promotes third-party testing, describes gummies as high in water activity (the share of water free to drive chemical reactions and microbial growth), usually acidified with citric or malic acid, and more exposed to oxygen than dense, coated tablets (Contract Laboratory, February 2026). SupplySide adds that gummy manufacturing often reaches 100 degrees Celsius or more.

The result shows up in independent testing. A 2023 research letter in JAMA tested 25 melatonin gummy brands bought online and found that 22 of them were more than 10% off their labeled melatonin, with measured amounts from 74% to 347% of the label (MDedge summary of the JAMA study, April 2023). Creatine gummies have their own record, which we cover in detail on our creatine gummies page: in SuppCo's June 2025 test, four of six creatine gummies failed while all five powders passed.

Both directions are a problem. Too little active means the product can be misbranded. Too much can push a vitamin past safe intake levels. A gummy has to land in a range on day one and still be in range at the end of its shelf life.
[03] Base, Sugar and Overages

Pectin vs Gelatin, Sugar and Overages: The Formulation Decisions That Matter Most

Pectin or gelatin. Gelatin comes from animal collagen, typically pork or beef, and gives a soft, elastic chew. Pectin is plant-derived, gives a firmer bite and suits vegan positioning, per Sourcify, a company that sells gummy manufacturing services. SupplySide reported that gelatin gummies melt at a much lower temperature than pectin gummies, that pectin needs a pH of about 3.0 to 4.5 to gel, and that adding vitamin C (ascorbic acid) can make a pectin base set too firmly or at the wrong time. In plain terms: pectin handles heat better, it needs tight acid control, and each base limits which actives you can use.

Sugar. Gummies are mostly sweetener. A USP scientist's slides from a 2023 FDA workshop list typical chewable gel ingredients as gelatin, pectin or agar at 5% to 8%, water at 15% to 20%, sucrose at 28% to 50% and corn syrup solids at 40% to 55% (USP presentation, FDA workshop, October 2023). Under 21 CFR 101.36, calories, total sugars and added sugars go on the Supplement Facts panel when present above zero-declaration amounts. A sugar free claim requires less than 0.5 g of sugars per serving and, unless the product is low calorie, a statement such as "not a low calorie food" (21 CFR 101.60(c)). AQUALAB, which sells water activity instruments, notes that sugar-free and vegan recipes can weep liquid over time.

Overages. An overage is extra active added so the gummy still meets its label at expiration, and FDA's labeling rule allows reasonable excesses within good manufacturing practice (21 CFR 101.36(f)). The USP slides state that US supplements must meet 100% of label claim through shelf life and that gummies need bigger overages than tablets. USP chewable gel monographs allow vitamin C at 90% to 150% versus 90% to 110% for tablets and capsules. In the SupplySide article, formulator Crystal Webber said she has seen vitamin C overages of 20% to 60%. The USP slides also warn that overages must not push a nutrient past its tolerable upper intake level.

DecisionWhat to ask your manufacturer
Base: pectin or gelatinWhich base works with these actives and this flavor acid, and how does it hold up at summer warehouse temperatures?
Dose per gummyHow many gummies make a serving, and what share of each gummy's weight is the active? Big doses (creatine, fiber) can need several gummies.
Overage per activeWhat overage you plan for each active, based on which stability data, and whether it stays under upper intake levels.
Water activity and pH targetsThe finished-product targets and how each batch is checked against them.
[04] Proving What Is Inside

Testing Gummies: Why Labs Struggle and What to Require

A gummy is hard to test, not just hard to make. SupplySide reported that gelatin or pectin, colors, flavors and sugar can interfere with the lab's extraction, and the USP sample method freezes 25 to 30 gummies in liquid nitrogen before grinding. For creatine, NutraIngredients reported in July 2025 that pectin can interfere with the lab testing column and that Eurofins uses a modified USP method for pectin gummies. A lab that has not adapted its method can return a wrong answer in either direction.

So the lab's method matters as much as its accreditation. ISO/IEC 17025 is the international accreditation standard for testing labs, granted per method. Ask whether the lab has validated its method for your active in a gummy base. A certificate of analysis (COA, the lab report showing what a batch contains) for the raw ingredient tells you nothing about what survived cooking.

Then test over time. Contract Laboratory describes accelerated stability testing at conditions such as 40 degrees Celsius and 75% relative humidity to size overages, and real-time stability at normal storage to validate an expiration date. FDA's cGMP compliance guide says you should have data to support any expiration date you print. SupplySide quoted a supplement maker saying most gummies carry a two-year shelf life and most brands do not run shelf-life testing.

Finished-product potency, every lot

Each labeled active, measured in finished gummies with a method validated for the gummy base.

Weight variation

Actives can settle unevenly. The USP slides describe weight variation testing on 20 to 30 units, with no unit more than 7.5% from the average.

Water activity and pH

USP chewable gel monographs recommend water activity of no more than 0.75 with pH controlled at 4.5 or lower, considered together to control microbes.

Red flag: raw COA only

A manufacturer that offers only the raw material COA, or a lab that will not discuss its gummy method, is not ready for your product.

Amazon's verification sits on top of all this. As of October 2026, trade press reports Amazon requires third-party verification of cGMP compliance for all dietary supplements, with extra lab testing in higher-risk categories such as sports nutrition. Our Amazon supplement testing guide explains who tests and what it costs.

[05] Heat, Moisture and Amazon Warehouses

Packaging, Shipping and Amazon's Summer Meltable Window

Heat and humidity damage gummies after they leave the factory. Sourcify wrote in March 2026 that short exposure above 85 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit can damage some formulas, that summer ocean containers can exceed 120 degrees, and that repeated warming and cooling can fuse gummies into a clump (Sourcify, March 2026). It recommends high-barrier PET or HDPE bottles, proper induction seals, tight closures and desiccants when appropriate. AQUALAB adds that packaging should be chosen for how much moisture passes through it.

Amazon adds a calendar problem. Amazon treats heat-sensitive products as meltable and does not accept them into FBA during the hot months. In 2024, Amazon announced in Seller Forums that it would not accept meltable inventory from April 15 to October 15, and it named gummies as an example (Amazon Seller Forums, 2024). For 2026, EcomCrew reported in March that the cutoff was April 20 with disposal starting May 1, again naming gummies (EcomCrew, March 2026). EcomCrew put the 2026 reopening at September 28, but other trade sources reported dates as late as November 1, so check the exact dates in Seller Central each spring.

Not every gummy is flagged. Amazon keeps a list of meltable ASINs; check yours in Seller Central rather than assume. If it is flagged, sell through FBA stock before the cutoff, or fulfill from your own warehouse or a climate-controlled 3PL during summer. A gummy launched in March can lose FBA access within weeks.

FBA ruleWhat it means for a gummy
Meltable windowSummer FBA restriction on flagged ASINs; 2026 cutoff reported as April 20. Confirm dates in Seller Central.
Expiration-dated productsAmazon's FBA expiration page says remaining shelf life at check-in must cover full use of the product plus 90 days; its guideline table lists 730 days for herbal or mineral supplements. Confirm which applies to your ASIN in Seller Central.
Date formatEvery ingestible unit needs an expiration or manufacturing date, a lot number alone is not enough, and the date you enter for the shipment must match the printed date.
Iron gummiesUnder 16 CFR 1700.14(a)(13), supplements with 250 mg or more of elemental iron in one package need child-resistant packaging, and 21 CFR 101.17(e) requires an iron overdose warning on iron-containing supplements.
The expiration rules come from Amazon's Expiration dates on FBA products page, which renders only for logged-in sellers. A 60-gummy bottle taken at two gummies a day lasts 30 days, so under the full-use rule it needs at least 120 days left at check-in, and more if the 730-day figure applies. Confirm the current rule in Seller Central. The iron rules come from 16 CFR 1700.14 and 21 CFR 101.17.
[06] On the Detail Page

Building the Amazon Listing for a Gummy Shoppers Already Doubt

Start from the label. As of October 2026, trade press reports that Amazon requires listings to match the Supplement Facts panel exactly. For gummies, the mismatch usually happens in the serving size. If a serving is two gummies, the title, bullets and images must not imply one gummy delivers the full dose.

Show what gummy shoppers check: a clear Supplement Facts image, gummies per serving and price per serving, the base and dietary details (pectin or gelatin, sugar per serving, vegan if true), a testing image that says only what you can prove, and a close-up of the real gummy in the color and shape that ships.

Keep claims on the right side of the line. A gummy can say "supports restful sleep" as a structure/function claim with the FDA disclaimer. It cannot say it treats insomnia or prevents colds. See our structure/function claims guide.

Fine if true: a testing statement

"Each lot tested for potency at an ISO 17025 accredited lab" if it is true and you can show the reports.

Fine: a consistent serving

"2 gummies per serving, 30 servings" stated the same way on the label, title and images.

Avoid: candy cues

Candy-like language aimed at children, or images that make a supplement look like a treat to grab freely.

[07] Step by Step

How to Launch a Gummy Supplement on Amazon in Ten Steps

1

Confirm a gummy is the right format

If the active needs a large dose or breaks down in water and heat, a capsule or powder may be the honest choice. Choose a gummy when the format is why people buy.

2

Choose stock or custom

A stock gummy is faster and cheaper; a custom one lets you set the dose and base. Our private label vs custom formula guide compares them.

3

Vet the manufacturer on gummies specifically

Ask for finished-gummy COAs and stability data on a similar product, and how they handle heat, acid and water activity. Our manufacturer vetting guide has the full checklist.

4

Write specifications into the quality agreement

Minimum potency per serving at release and at expiration, water activity and pH targets, test methods and the lab. Then you can reject a batch against them.

5

Run a pilot batch and start stability testing

Accelerated data helps size overages before you scale. Start real-time stability too, since it supports the expiration date you print.

6

Design packaging for heat and moisture

Barrier bottle, induction seal, desiccant if needed, room for the full label, and child-resistant closures where the iron rule applies.

7

Build the label and listing from final test results

Supplement Facts panel, title, bullets, images and A+ content must all say the same thing, including gummies per serving.

8

Clear Amazon's verification early

New third-party testing was quoted at about 4 to 6 weeks by an Amazon agency in April 2026. Start before your inventory ships.

9

Time the first FBA shipment around the meltable window

If your ASIN is flagged, launch in the fall or plan merchant or 3PL fulfillment for summer. Check the meltable list and dates in Seller Central.

10

Launch with Vine, PPC and Subscribe & Save

Vine is $0 for up to 2 units, $75 for 3 to 10 and $200 for 11 to 30 per parent ASIN, and needs Brand Registry, FBA, a Professional account and fewer than 30 reviews (Amazon Vine). Start PPC on exact ingredient-plus-gummy terms, and see our supplement launch guide for the full sequence.

Budget check: Build Your Own Brand, a private label maker that sells this service, publishes stock gummies at $2.00 to $3.50 per unit at a 500 unit minimum. Our cost to launch a supplement brand page runs the full math with Amazon fees, testing and ads.
[08] Get Help or Do It Yourself

When to Get Help and When to Do It Yourself

Do it yourself: a simple, stable stock gummy

A low-dose gummy from a manufacturer with real stability data, launched in the fall, is a reasonable first project. Spend on testing and ads, and run our free listing audit before launch.

Get a formulator: heat-sensitive or high-dose actives

Probiotics, creatine, fat-soluble vitamins and multi-ingredient gummies need someone who has made them stable before. That is a formulator, not an agency.

Get a regulatory attorney: children's products and bold claims

Gummies marketed to children, iron gummies, and any claim beyond standard structure/function wording deserve a lawyer's review. We are not lawyers.

Get help: listing, creative and launch timing

Turning test results into a listing shoppers trust, and planning inventory around the meltable window, is where experience saves a season.

Here is how we help. We are a husband-and-wife team in Colorado, Ian and Megan, backed by AI agents, and Ian has sold on Amazon since 2015. Our Amazon brand management plans are paid monthly up front and run month to month: Brand Support 5 hours for $750, Brand Manager 10 hours for $1,250, Brand Manager Plus 20 hours for $2,000, and Full Brand Management 40 hours for $3,600. Hours do not roll over, and ad spend and fixed-price production are billed separately. A brand manager keeps the manufacturer, test results, label, listing and FBA calendar moving together. Our brand management for supplement brands page shows what that covers.

If you only need pieces, our pricing page lists them: product photography from $295, product video from $395, listing optimization at $495 per listing, the Launch Roadmap at $995, the Full Launch Package at $2,495, and launch PPC at $995 a month for the first 60 days. Packaging and label design is quoted per project or done inside brand management hours. We work with supplement brands such as Liquid Health and Purely Optimal; see our supplement brand marketing page.

[11] FAQ

Common Questions

Are gummy supplements harder to make than capsules?
Yes. A gummy is a cooked, acidic, water-based gel, and that environment breaks down many actives faster than a dry capsule or tablet. Manufacturers add overages to cover losses over shelf life, and USP allows wider ranges for chewable gels than for tablets. Testing is harder too, because the gummy base can interfere with lab methods.
Should I use pectin or gelatin for a gummy supplement?
Pectin is plant-based, suits vegan positioning and holds up better to heat, but needs a narrow acidic pH to gel and can react with some actives, such as vitamin C. Gelatin comes from animal collagen and gives a softer chew, but melts at much lower temperatures. Pick based on your customer, your actives and how hot your supply chain and storage get.
What is an overage in gummy supplements?
An overage is extra active ingredient added so the gummy still meets its labeled amount at the end of its shelf life. FDA allows reasonable excesses within good manufacturing practice. The right overage comes from stability data on your formula, not a guess, and it must not push a nutrient above its tolerable upper intake level.
Can I sell gummies through FBA in the summer?
Often not, if Amazon flags your ASIN as meltable. Amazon stops accepting meltable FBA inventory during warm months, and trade press reported a 2026 cutoff of April 20 with gummies named as an example. Check whether your ASIN is on Amazon's meltable list in Seller Central, and plan merchant or 3PL fulfillment for summer if it is.
Why do gummy supplements fail lab testing?
Usually because the active broke down during cooking or storage, too little was added, or the lab's method did not work in a gummy base. Sugar, pectin, gelatin and colors can interfere with extraction. Require finished-product testing on every lot at an accredited lab that has validated its method for gummies.
How long does it take to launch a gummy supplement on Amazon?
Plan around three clocks: manufacturing lead time, published at 4 to 6 weeks for stock and 10 to 16 weeks for custom by manufacturers we checked; Amazon verification, quoted at about 4 to 6 weeks for new testing; and the summer meltable window. A fall launch avoids losing FBA access right after your first shipment.
Can Evolve help launch my gummy supplement?
Yes, on the brand, listing, creative and launch side. We do not formulate, manufacture or test, and we do not recommend a manufacturer. Our brand management plans start at $750 a month for 5 hours, and the Full Launch Package is $2,495. Email Ian at [email protected] or call or text 719-257-3557.
