Search this and you get a keyword page hosted on a cloud subdomain, a Nigerian newspaper's "review" that reads like paid placement, and a 2023 article retitled 2026. We checked 15 providers on October 22, 2026, and read the 2026 studies on what the assistants actually cite for local queries. Here are twelve options, agencies and software, ranked for a single-location service business, with every published price.
Short answer
For a single-location service business: Evolve Media Agency ($995 for the profile, citations, schema and a 20-prompt baseline; $2,995 with a five-page site; $495 a month upkeep, cancel any month), WebFX (local SEO from $575 a month; GEO tiers from $3,000 with a six-month term), BrightLocal (AI visibility tracker from $41 a month; managed local SEO $1,299 a month), HigherVisibility (the clearest GEO scope, quote only). For home services: Hook Agency (AEO $4,000 a month) and Built-Right Digital (from $1,199 a month, two conflicting price sets). For dentists: ThinkProfits ($995 to $4,995 a month). To do it yourself: Synup $49, Semrush Local $30, Local Falcon $24.99 a month. What the data says: Google Business Profile is 28.6% of local AI citations and Yelp 9.5% in BrightLocal's 200,000-prompt study; business websites are 42% of citations; ChatGPT barely uses the profile; among directories it leaned on BBB in the Foundation study, and Yelp says its data now powers ChatGPT's local results. Google says no special markup is needed for AI Overviews.

Getting a local business recommended by an assistant is four jobs: a website that says what you do and where, a complete Google Business Profile, consistent name-address-phone across the directories the assistants read (Yelp and BBB for ChatGPT), and recent reviews that describe the service. Everything else is measurement. On October 22, 2026, we loaded the service pages of 15 providers (eight agencies, seven software platforms) and recorded the published price, which of the four jobs the package covers, which assistants they monitor, what results they claim and whether a method is given, and the review profile. The ranking is for a single-location service business; the multi-location platforms are listed where they belong.
Two cautions. The names for this work (AI search optimization, GEO, AEO, AI visibility, LLM SEO) are marketing; the work underneath is local SEO with better measurement, and Google's own documentation says there are no extra requirements or special markup to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Second, only one agency page here (WebFX) says in writing that it does not guarantee AI placement. Any page promising "#1 in ChatGPT" is promising something no one controls.
Evolve ($995, $2,995, $495 a month), WebFX (from $575 a month), BrightLocal ($41 a month software, $1,299 managed), Hook ($4,000 a month), ThinkProfits ($995 to $4,995), Built-Right ($1,199 to $19,999, inconsistently), plus the software (Synup, Semrush Local, Local Falcon).
Evolve, WebFX local plans, BrightLocal, Rival Digital, Digital Shift, Built-Right (higher tiers). Hook's AEO and ThinkProfits' AEO are content and placement products; the profile work is a separate plan.
BrightLocal, Synup, Local Falcon (software); Evolve (20 prompts before and after); ThinkProfits (monthly prompt-level); HigherVisibility (dashboard); WebFX GEO (50 prompts on Bronze). Rival, Digital Shift and Built-Right list no tracking.
Homepage statistics rendering as "0 +" placeholders and a 60-day guarantee with no definition (LocalMighty, not ranked); two price sets that disagree (Built-Right); a main button linking to "#" (Rival); a service page misspelled and redirecting to the homepage (Digital Shift).
Google Search Central (updated December 2025) says there are no extra requirements or special markup to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode; a page needs to be indexed and eligible for a snippet, structured data must match the visible text, and the Business Profile should be kept current. Source: Google, AI features and your website. Anyone selling "AI Mode markup" is selling something Google says is not needed.
200,085 localized prompts across about 1,300 locations on ChatGPT, AI Mode and AI Overviews, 1.97 million citations. Google Business Profile took 28.6% of citations, Yelp 9.5%, Facebook 2.2%, Tripadvisor 1.8%. Business websites were 42% of citations and 93% of unique domains cited. Businesses were mentioned in 66% of Maps results, 38% of AI Overviews, 33% of ChatGPT answers and 32% of AI Mode. ChatGPT "hardly" uses the profile. BrightLocal sells local SEO software; the method is published. Source: BrightLocal local AI visibility study.
10,000 US restaurants, Google Maps and AI Overviews, 657,000+ citations: Google's own listings 48.6% of AI citations, Yelp 14.1%, Tripadvisor 4.4%, Facebook 2.6%, Reddit 2.3%. Vendor-funded, method published. Source: Local Falcon restaurant index.
Over 28 million AI responses from Q4 2025 across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and AI Mode, tracking six directories (Google Maps excluded): Yelp 512,680 citations against 149,710 for BBB and 145,633 for Angi; Yelp was 72.5% of six-directory citations on AI Mode and 62.1% on Perplexity; ChatGPT leaned on BBB. Yelp reuses the figures in investor materials. Source: Foundation Marketing, Yelp and AI local discovery.
Yelp's second-quarter 2026 shareholder letter says Yelp ratings and reviews now power ChatGPT's local experience in relevant categories, with Request-a-Quote inside ChatGPT coming, building on Yelp's Apple Maps and Yahoo deals. The practical read for a service business: a complete, reviewed Yelp profile is a ChatGPT input, not a 2015 relic.
In BrightLocal's study, profile and directory citations and business websites split the citation share about evenly, roughly 42% each; the website is the only part you fully control. A package that is content only, or tracking only, covers one job of four. Our free local business AI search guide and the AI visibility checklist cover all four without a vendor.

What we sell: Local AI search for service businesses as fixed hour blocks: a 20-prompt baseline of what ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity say about your trade in your town, Google Business Profile completed, Apple Business Connect and Bing Places set up, citation cleanup on your top 10 directories, LocalBusiness and Service schema, review request and reply templates, and a re-run of the 20 prompts at the end. The bigger package adds a five-page WordPress site built to be recommended; the upkeep plan answers every review, posts monthly and re-checks the prompts.
We publish this page. We are first on the stated method: a published fixed price for the work most local pages leave vague (profile, citations, schema, reviews, tracking), a 20-prompt before-and-after instead of a guarantee, and no retainer. We do not promise an assistant will name you; nobody can.
Local AI Search Starter $995 (10 hours). Website + AI Search Package $2,995 (30 hours, five-page site, schema, llms.txt, GA4 call and form tracking, one revision round). Reviews + Citations Upkeep $495 a month (5 hours, cancel any month). 100% upfront, 3 to 5 weeks. Hosting, domain and directory fees billed to you at cost.

Harrisburg, PA · founded 1995 · Clutch 4.9 (454)
What they sell: Local SEO plans starting at $575 a month (Google Business Profile, 40+ citations, schema, quarterly content, review alerts, pitched as feeding ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews) and a separate GEO service in tiers from $3,000 a month (50 tracked prompts) to $68,250 a month, with a six-month commitment, schema, digital PR for citations, and OmniSEO tracking of 10 to 13 engines.
One of two agencies on this list (Hook is the other) that publish a price for both the local work and the AI work, and the only one whose page says in plain words that it does not guarantee AI placements. The GEO page never mentions Google Business Profile or the local pack, so for a single location the $575 local plan is the relevant product and the GEO tiers are for brands. Two FAQ lists on the GEO page disagree on how many engines are tracked.

What they sell: A Local AI Visibility Tracker (ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews; up to 20 prompts per location, a 0-to-100 score, the sources cited and the citation gaps) inside every software plan (Track $41 a month, Manage $54, Grow $65 for one location), a Citation Builder from $2 a site, and a Managed Local SEO service at $1,299 a month with no setup fee covering the profile, website, citations, content and links.
The best-priced way to see what the assistants are actually citing for your trade in your town, from the company whose September 2026 study of 200,000 local prompts is the reference in this field. The managed service scope does not say it covers AI visibility work, and the citation price reads $2 on one page and $3.20 in the FAQ. Software first, service second.
Software $41, $54 or $65 a month for one location (annual $31, $40, $49). Managed Local SEO $1,299 a month. Citations from $2 a site. Published.

Memphis, TN · founded 2009 per its site (Clutch says 2008) · Clutch 4.6 (16)
What they sell: A GEO service with the most specific scope on the agency side: an AI visibility audit across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ and HowTo schema, citation gap analysis, a share-of-voice baseline, an InSite dashboard and monthly reporting; local SEO is a separate service.
If you want a mid-size agency to run the AI piece with a defined process, this is the clearest offer. No price; the intake form runs from under $500 to $20,000+ a month. The results section shows organic traffic and lead lifts, not AI-citation outcomes, and some of the stats on the page have no source.
No prices published; budget form from under $500 to $20,000+ a month.

What they sell: AEO for roofers and contractors at $4,000 a month (or $2,000 added to an SEO plan): news-style articles, directory placements, PR mentions, live AI query tracking and monthly reports; Local SEO at $2,800 a month. Google Business Profile and schema are not part of the AEO product.
Published prices and a home-services specialty. The AEO scope is content and placements, so the profile and technical work sit in the separate SEO plan; budget both. Says most clients see visibility gains in two to three months, without data. Clutch lists a $25,000 minimum project and no reviews yet; the team count on the site is 30 in one place and 32 in another.
AEO $4,000 a month, or $2,000 as an add-on to SEO. Local SEO $2,800 a month. Published.

What they sell: AEO for dental practices in four tiers ($995, $1,895, $3,495, $4,995 a month): 60-to-90-word answer blocks, FAQPage and Speakable schema, entity and citation building on trade publications, Reddit, Wikidata and niche directories, clinician-attributed content, and monthly prompt-level citation tracking across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Copilot.
The most itemized AEO package we found for a single trade, with a price on every tier. Google Business Profile work sits in a separate local SEO service, no dental case studies or reviews appear on the page, and the claim that Speakable schema feeds Siri is a stretch.
Bronze $995, Silver $1,895, Gold $3,495, Platinum $4,995 a month. Published.

What they sell: Listings sync, review management, geo-grid rank tracking, an AI visibility score across ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and an agent that acts within approval rules; every plan has every feature and tiers differ by location count: Solo $49 a month (1), Premium $299 (10), Pro $499 (25), Scale $899 (50).
The cheapest all-in-one for an owner who will do the work: $49 a month gets the listings, reviews and an AI score for one location. It is software; nobody at Synup writes your pages or answers your reviews.

What they sell: Local Base at $30 a month per location (Google Business Profile AI agent, map rank tracker, profile audits) and Local Pro at $60 (adds listing management on 70+ directories and review management); custom for 20+ locations; seven-day trial.
Cheap and well built for the profile and listings half. The AI engine tracking (ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, Perplexity) is not in the Local plans; it sits in Semrush's separate brand toolkit, so check the AI piece is in the plan you buy.

What they sell: Geo-grid rank tracking plus AI visibility tracking on credit-based plans from $24.99 a month (Starter) to $199.99 (Premium); the pricing page does not name the engines, its blog says AI Mode, Gemini and Grok were added.
The cheapest way to see where you rank on the map by neighborhood, with an AI layer added. A tool for owners and agencies, not a service; the credit counts differ between the pricing page and the FAQ.

What they sell: Home-services retainers with "AI SEO" bundled: a compare table shows $1,199, $2,099, $4,199 and $19,999 a month while the pricing page headline shows $1,499, $2,499 and $4,999, plus a standalone "SEO Plus AEO/AIO" at $2,999 a month; Google Business Profile setup, citations, schema on the higher tiers, 500 to 6,400 words of content a month, month to month.
Published prices and a plain tier structure for trades, which is rare. The two price sets do not agree and the site does not explain the gap; all six case studies carry the same August 2026 date, the 5x ROAS claim has no method, there is no address or copyright year, and no AI visibility tracking is listed. It also publishes a "best plumbing AEO agencies" list that ranks itself first.
$1,199 / $2,099 / $4,199 / $19,999 a month on one page; $1,499 / $2,499 / $4,999 on another; standalone AEO $2,999. Published, inconsistent.

What they sell: AI search optimization for trades companies: Google Business Profile optimization, name-address-phone consistency, LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ and Review schema, question-matched content, digital PR and review responses, naming ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot; also sells ChatGPT advertising.

What they sell: Local AI search optimization plus Google Business Profile, listings, reviews and link outreach for about 50 trades, on flat monthly pricing with no contracts (amount not published).
Listed because it ranks for the search and names the right work. The "Local AI Search Optimizaiton" link (spelled that way on the site) redirected to the homepage the day we checked, the page names ChatGPT only, client counts read 1,000+ and 1,600+ on the same site, a testimonial is duplicated, there is no address, and the "average 3.2x return" has no method.

Hundreds of recent reviews, a complete profile and a site that names every service and area: the assistants probably recommend you now. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for your trade in your town before paying anyone to tell you.
Reviews are what the assistants quote. Every package above depends on someone sending the request. If that will not happen, the review section of any plan is dead money.
This produces calls. If you are booked out three months, spend the money on staff.
Google says no special markup earns AI Overviews. No one controls what an assistant says. A before-and-after on real prompts is the only fair measure; a guarantee is a sales script.
A home page built around a slogan with the services buried cannot be recommended by anything. Fix the site, or buy the package that includes one, before buying citations for it.
Most owners can do the Starter work themselves from the free guide in a few evenings. The agency is for owners who have decided their time is worth more than $100 an hour.
Content-only and tracking-only packages cover one. The citation studies say the profile and directories carry about as much weight as the website.
Evolve: 20 prompts, re-run at the end. BrightLocal: 20 per location. WebFX GEO: 50 on the entry tier. "We monitor AI" with no number is not monitoring.
Yelp says it powers ChatGPT's local results. Apple Maps listings come from Apple Business Connect and Bing's from Bing Places; neither company has published how its assistant uses them, so cover both. Google-only is half a package.
The right answer is work and measurement. A placement promise is a red flag the moment it is made.
