The old system counted strikes. The new one is a bank balance that pays interest on good behavior and charges fees for bad, and most sellers found out about it when the preview score appeared in May.
Every marketplace has an account health system, and every seller learns it the first time a notice arrives. On TikTok Shop that education got harder in 2026 because the system changed under people's feet: violation points became a rolling score, the customer complaint metric became a handling-time clock, and the comparisons moved to category benchmarks. This post is the current system, written from TikTok's own Account Health Rating requirements page and the seller guides that have tracked the rollout, plus what we have seen managing client shops through it.
Evolve Media Agency manages TikTok Shop for clients, and Bear Basics, the brand I own, sells on it, so we have an interest in shops staying healthy and in you hiring help when they are not. The score mechanics below are from TikTok Shop's US Seller Center as of September 15, 2026; the appeal windows and some metric details are from third-party summaries of TikTok's policy documents and are labeled as reported. TikTok changes enforcement policy frequently and the Seller Center page is authoritative over this post.
This is the TikTok mirror of our Amazon account health guide; section 11 maps the two side by side for brands running both.
What Changed In July 2026
Four things, and a seller who learned TikTok Shop in 2025 needs to unlearn all of them.
- Violation points are gone in the US. The strike-style system where points accumulated toward suspension thresholds was retired in July 2026 for US shops and replaced by the Account Health Rating. Sellers could preview their projected AHR in Seller Center from May 2026. Some other regions still run a points system (a 48-point version is documented for some Asian markets), which is why advice from a non-US seller can be exactly wrong for a US shop; your enforcement system follows your shop's registered country.
- The score can go up. Under points, the best you could do was zero. Under AHR, fulfilled orders and policy quizzes add points, so a high-volume, well-run shop builds a cushion above 200.
- Negative review rate and seller-fault return rate are compared to your category rather than to a flat threshold, per the rollout notes. A 4% return rate is a problem in supplements and normal in apparel.
- Customer complaint rate was replaced by a 60-day After-Sales Handling Time metric, per the same notes. What is measured is how fast you resolve after-sales requests, which is something you control.
The older 0-to-100 "Shop Health Score" with green, yellow and red bands that some 2025 guides describe is the previous model; if your Seller Center shows a score out of 1,000, you are on AHR and this post applies.
How The Account Health Rating Is Built
Account Health Rating (AHR). TikTok Shop's 0-to-1,000 score of a seller's compliance and performance standing, shown in Seller Center under Account Health. Per TikTok's requirements page, it is based on the last 180 days: every shop starts at 200, earns points for fulfilled orders and for passing policy quizzes, and loses points for policy violations and for failing performance standards. It is continuous rather than a strike count, and enforcement is triggered at milestone scores rather than by a single violation.
Two consequences of the design. First, volume is protective: a shop doing 500 orders a month accrues points that absorb a violation a shop doing 20 orders cannot. Second, the 180-day window means a bad month follows you for six, and also that a clean six months erases it. Neither is true under a strike system, which is why sellers who plan around "how many strikes until suspension" are planning for a system that no longer exists.
The Milestones And What They Restrict
| AHR Score | Status | Enforcement | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| 200 to 1,000 | Healthy | None | n/a |
| 151 to 199 | Needs improvement | Warnings; no restriction yet | n/a |
| 150 | At risk | Cannot create new listings; cannot enroll in mega campaigns | 7 days |
| 100 | Elevated risk | Same restrictions | 14 days |
| 50 | Critical | Same restrictions | 28 days |
| 0 | Deactivated | Permanent account deactivation; reactivation at TikTok's sole discretion | Permanent |
Read the middle rows carefully: the restriction is on new listings and mega-campaign enrollment, and it lasts a fixed number of days from the milestone. Existing listings keep selling. That is less severe than an Amazon suspension and more insidious, because a shop at 150 during a Q4 mega campaign loses the campaign it built the year around and keeps trading otherwise, so the damage does not look like an emergency until the revenue report. Passing the policy quiz attached to a violation can shorten the enforcement, which is a reason to open the ticket the day it arrives.
The Performance Metrics Underneath
Policy violations are discrete events. Performance standards are rates, measured continuously, and they are where most healthy shops lose points without noticing. The ones that matter, with the direction of the 2026 changes.
| Metric | What It Measures | 2026 Note | What Moves It |
|---|---|---|---|
| Late dispatch rate | Orders not handed to the carrier inside the dispatch window | Unchanged; the most common deduction we see | Handling-time setting vs real capacity; weekend and holiday gaps; 3PL cutoffs |
| Seller-fault cancellation rate | Orders you cancel (stockout, pricing error, cannot ship) | Unchanged | Inventory sync between channels; oversells during LIVE and flash sales |
| After-Sales Handling Time (60-day) | How quickly you resolve return, refund and after-sales requests | Replaced Customer Complaint Rate, per rollout notes | Whether someone checks the after-sales queue daily, including weekends |
| Seller-fault return / refund rate | Returns attributed to the seller: not as described, damaged, wrong item | Moving to category-based comparison | Listing accuracy (section 5); packaging; QC |
| Negative review rate | Share of reviews at low ratings | Moving to category-based comparison | Product quality; expectation-setting on the listing; delivery experience |
| Delivery and logistics performance | On-time delivery, tracking validity | Carrier-dependent; seller accountable | Carrier choice; valid tracking uploaded at dispatch |
The category-based comparison is the change that helps honest sellers most. Under a flat threshold, apparel and footwear shops lived near the return-rate line permanently. Against a category benchmark, a shop only loses points for being worse than its peers. Watch the Shop Health page for where your category benchmark sits; TikTok shows the comparison rather than publishing the numbers.
Violations By Type And Cost
TikTok does not publish a point value per violation; deductions scale with severity and repetition. From tickets we have handled and the policy categories TikTok uses, ranked by how much damage they do to a score and how often they appear.
| Violation Family | Typical Trigger | Severity | Also Triggers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prohibited or restricted products | Listing an item in a restricted category without approval; counterfeits; recalled goods | Highest; can deactivate without milestone steps | Listing removal, payout hold |
| Intellectual property | Rights-holder complaint; brand name in title; stock images you do not own | High, especially repeated | Listing freeze; brand authorization demand |
| Misrepresentation | Product not as described; wrong category to dodge requirements; deceptive pricing | High; feeds return rate too | Listing removal; return-rate deductions |
| Fulfillment performance | Late dispatch, seller-fault cancellations, invalid tracking | Medium per event; the most frequent | Order value limit cuts, settlement delays (reported) |
| After-sales | Missed handling-time clock; refused valid returns | Medium; compounds weekly | Auto-approved refunds at your cost |
| Off-platform and conduct | Redirecting buyers off TikTok; review manipulation; contacting buyers outside the platform | High | Feature restrictions |
| Listing quality | Missing disclosures (Prop 65, choking hazard); non-compliant images; character substitution | Low to medium; frequent on new shops | Listing capped or removed until fixed |
The top three rows are the ones that can end a shop in a single ticket. The bottom four are the ones that grind a healthy shop down to 150 over a quarter, and they are all operational. The listing-quality row overlaps the TikTok Shop listing rules covered earlier in this series; fixing the listing fixes the violation and usually the return rate with it.
Reading A Violation Ticket
A violation is a record with its own reason, policy reference, point deduction, status, enforcement and next step. The score is the sum; the ticket is the thing you act on. Sellers who watch only the number miss the ticket whose appeal window closes in three days.
Two ticket types deserve special attention. Delayed-enforcement tickets are the ones where the penalty applies automatically unless you appeal inside a short window, reported at 12 to 72 hours depending on the violation; those are the ones to check email for daily. And performance tickets (dispatch, cancellations, after-sales) come with the order list, which is the evidence base for the appeal and the diagnosis for the fix.
Appeals: Windows, Evidence, What Wins
Every violation can be appealed from its record, and a successful appeal removes the violation and restores the points. The windows, as reported from TikTok's Violation and Appeal Guide (May 2026): a first appeal within a set number of calendar days of notification, a second and final appeal within 15 calendar days of a rejection, and for delayed-enforcement violations a much shorter window of 12 to 72 hours to stop the penalty applying. Check the window on your own ticket; it is printed there.
| Violation Family | Evidence That Wins | What Loses |
|---|---|---|
| Late dispatch | Carrier acceptance scans with timestamps; 3PL or WMS logs; Seller Center screenshots with metadata showing dispatch inside the window | "We shipped on time" with no scan; blaming the carrier without the handoff proof |
| Seller-fault cancellation | Proof the buyer requested cancellation; proof the address was undeliverable | Stockout explanations; those are seller fault by definition |
| After-sales handling | Timestamps showing response and resolution inside the clock; the buyer's own messages | Arguing the buyer was wrong; the metric is time rather than merit |
| IP / authenticity | Invoices from the brand or authorized distributor in the shop entity's name; brand authorization letter; trademark registration if it is your brand | Marketplace receipts; invoices in a different company name |
| Misrepresentation / wrong category | Fix the listing first, then appeal with before-and-after; category documentation for the correct placement | Appealing without changing the listing |
| Prohibited product | Category approval documents; lab reports or certifications the category requires; proof the item is not what the classifier matched | "Other sellers list it" |
The pattern across every row: the appeal is a document delivery rather than an argument. State the finding, state the fact that contradicts it, attach the proof with timestamps, and stop. Where the finding is correct, fix it, take the quiz, and use the appeal box to describe the correction, because TikTok's guidance says corrections can restore privileges too. The Amazon Section 3 appeals guide covers the same discipline for Amazon, and the two are more alike than sellers expect.
The Connected-Account Trap
TikTok links shops that share identifying details: bank accounts, contact information, business registration, sometimes devices and addresses. When one linked shop is penalized, restrictions can extend to the others. Brands hit this when an agency runs several client shops from shared infrastructure, when a founder opens a second shop for a second brand with the same payout account, or when a previously deactivated shop shares any detail with a new one.
- Keep every shop's registration, bank account, email and phone distinct, and document it, because "legitimately separate" is something you will need to prove.
- Resolve the root shop's violation first. Appeals on the linked shop fail while the source violation stands.
- Never open a new shop to escape a deactivated one. It is the fastest route to a permanent link and both shops closed.
- Agencies: separate client infrastructure. A client's IP violation should not be able to touch another client's shop through a shared login or payout detail.
Recovering A Score Below 200
A shop at 160 with a mega campaign three weeks out has a specific job. In order:
The recovery lever unique to AHR is volume. Under a strike system, selling more could only add risk. Under AHR, a clean order adds points, so a shop below 200 should push creator and LIVE activity on its existing listings rather than pulling back, provided fulfillment can keep up; a stockout cancellation during a recovery push is the worst possible outcome. The TikTok Shop strategy guide covers pacing demand against fulfillment capacity.
Prevention: The Operating Rules
Set handling time to what Friday afternoon and the day after a LIVE can deliver rather than what Tuesday morning can. Late dispatch is the most common deduction and it is a settings problem.
Including weekends. The 60-day handling-time metric is a clock, and a Saturday request that waits until Monday is two days on the clock.
LIVE sessions and flash sales cause oversells; oversells cause seller-fault cancellations. Sync stock with Amazon and Shopify, and set a LIVE-only reserve.
Accurate category, exact measurements, required disclosures, no claims you cannot document. This one rule prevents misrepresentation tickets, return-rate deductions and negative reviews at once.
Tracking uploaded late or invalid counts against delivery performance even when the package arrives.
Delayed-enforcement windows are measured in hours. A daily check of Shop Health and email is the whole habit.

Book A CallTikTok Shop vs Amazon Account Health
For brands running both, the systems rhyme and the differences are where people get hurt.
| Aspect | TikTok Shop (AHR, 2026) | Amazon (Account Health Rating) |
|---|---|---|
| Score | 0-1,000; starts at 200; rises with orders and quizzes | 0-1,000; starts at 200; rises with orders; policy violations deduct |
| Window | 180 days | 180 days |
| Milestone enforcement | 150 / 100 / 50: new listings and mega campaigns blocked for 7 / 14 / 28 days; 0 deactivates | Below 100 to 200: at risk; 99 and under: deactivation risk; separate performance metrics (ODR, late shipment, cancellation) with their own thresholds |
| What keeps selling under enforcement | Existing listings, until deactivation | Suspension stops everything |
| Performance metrics | Dispatch, cancellations, after-sales handling time, category-benchmarked returns and negative reviews | ODR, late shipment rate, pre-fulfillment cancel rate, valid tracking rate, with flat thresholds |
| Appeals | Per ticket; short delayed-enforcement windows; second appeal within 15 days of rejection (reported) | Plan of action per violation; reinstatement process for suspensions |
| Linked accounts | Shared details link shops; restrictions can propagate | Related-account enforcement; same principle |
The shared discipline is the one both guides end on: ship on time, answer fast, list honestly, document everything. The TikTok-specific hazard is the silent one: a shop at 150 keeps taking orders, so the restriction is easy to miss until a campaign you planned for is unavailable.
The Weekly Health Check
The counterweight, since we sell this: a shop that ships on time and answers after-sales daily does not need an agency for account health, and most of the shops we see in trouble have a fulfillment problem an operator could fix in a week. Where help pays is in the appeals, because writing a document-first appeal inside a 48-hour window while running a shop is a skill, and in the linked-account cases, which are genuinely tangled. For everything else, the six rules in section 10 are the whole program.
The score is a bank balance. Orders deposit, violations withdraw, and a shop that never looks at it is fine right up until the mega campaign it cannot enter.
What To Remember
- US TikTok Shop replaced violation points with the Account Health Rating in July 2026: 0 to 1,000, starting at 200, measured over 180 days, rising with fulfilled orders and policy quizzes and falling with violations and missed performance standards.
- Milestones at 150, 100 and 50 block new listings and mega-campaign enrollment for 7, 14 and 28 days; 0 is permanent deactivation, and TikTok warns you within 10 points of each.
- Existing listings keep selling under enforcement, which makes a restriction easy to miss until the campaign you planned for is closed.
- The metrics that bleed points are operational: late dispatch, seller-fault cancellations, after-sales handling time (which replaced complaint rate), and returns and negative reviews now compared to your category.
- Every violation is a ticket with its own record, evidence requirement and appeal window; delayed-enforcement windows are reported at 12 to 72 hours, so read tickets the day they land.
- Appeals are document deliveries: the finding, the contradicting fact, timestamped proof, and nothing else; where the finding is right, fix it, take the quiz, and describe the correction.
- Volume is a recovery lever under AHR; a shop below 200 should push clean orders on existing listings rather than pull back, provided fulfillment can hold.
